NEWPORT ANNUAL MEMBERS’ JURIED EXHIBITION 2016
Through May 22
Newport Art Museum76 Bellevue Ave., Newport

By Alexander Castro | Mercury
Maria Scaglione won an Honorable Mention in the latter category for “The Parrot,” which stars Marsha, an elderly woman the Westerly artist met at a flea market. The young Marsha was an adventurous dresser, and Scaglione explains: “No one corrected her…Marsha continued to dress exactly the way she wanted all her life.” Resplendent in a leopard print coat and sunglasses adorned with tiny parrots, Marsha is straight from a John Waters movie. Scaglione’s skill is clearly displayed in her empathetic and fashionable rendition of this fierce and eccentric model.
